With the Plano Wildcats Varsity trailing by one in the fifth inning, Garrett Maas came to the plate and doubled, bringing home A.J. Liu and Chris Cloud. Maas racked up three RBIs on one hit.
Offense was not hard to come by on Saturday, as both teams combined for 19 runs and 20 hits, including five extra base hits. Relief pitchers got their fill of innings during the game, with the opposing managers using six pitchers in total.
Brett Hudspeth racked up three RBIs on four hits for the Wildcats. He singled in the first, fourth, and fifth innings and doubled in the sixth inning.
Even though Jacob Mattox allowed eight runs over 5 1/3 innings he still recorded the victory. He struck out four, walked two and surrendered eight hits.
Zach Saint Pierre was the game’s losing pitcher. He allowed six runs in 1 2/3 innings, walked four and struck out one.
Plano Wildcats closer Gustavo Rodriguez put away the final five outs to record the save.
In the top of the first, Allen grabbed the early lead, 4-0. The Allen attack began with a single from Cole Maxwell. Aaron Stramel singled, scoring Camden Harrison. The scoreboard lit up again for Allen when Wernli scored on a sacrifice fly by Tanner Gyarmathy and Stramel and Saint Pierre scored on a two-run double by Justin Wicker.
Allen scored two runs in the third inning, and then followed it up with two more in the fifth. In the third, Allen scored on a two-run home run by Maxwell, plating Cody Wernli.
Plano Wildcats quickly matched Allen ‘s strong inning with a three-run inning of their own in the third. Plano scored on a walk by Rodriguez and a two-run single by Conner Allen. Plano went up for good in the fifth scoring five total runs, which came home on two singles.
