A J Liu had two extra base hits, sparking the Plano Wildcats to a 7-4 victory in seven innings over McKinney Boyd on Tuesday. He singled in the first inning and doubled in the second and sixth innings.
McKinney Boyd’s lineup had no answer for Mitchell Hansen. Hansen gave up just two hits, allowed one earned run, walked one and struck out two during his 4 2/3 innings of work. Keaton Livingston was the game’s losing pitcher. He lasted just three innings, walked one, struck out three, and allowed three runs. Plano Wildcats closer Zach Holifield put away the final two outs to record the save.
The Plano Wildcats never surrendered the lead after the second inning, scoring two runs on an RBI double by Liu and an error. The Wildcats pushed across two runs in both the fifth inning and the sixth. In the fifth, the Plano Wildcats scored on a two-run single by Conner Allen, scoring Quinn Waterbury and Sean Huckaba. One McKinney Boyd run crossed the plate in the bottom half of the fifth, making the score 5-1. An RBI single by Michael Duranczyk sparked McKinney Boyd’s rally. Finally, Jacob Mattox induced an inning-ending fly out from Logan Berlof.
The Plano Wildcats built upon their lead with two runs in the sixth. The inning looked promising, as Graham Welch singled, scoring Liu to kick things off.
After pushing across two runs in the bottom of the sixth, McKinney Boyd faced just a 7-3 deficit. An RBI triple by Brayden Webb and a groundout by Grant Restmeyer triggered McKinney Boyd’s comeback. Ross Matiscik struck out to end the McKinney Boyd threat. One run in the bottom of the seventh helped McKinney Boyd close its deficit to 7-4. An RBI single by Berlof set off McKinney Boyd rally. The game went final when Webb flew out.
