Plano Senior senior Mitchell Hansen and Allen senior Kyler Murray project to be on MLB draft radars over the next couple months, and a recent update to FanGraphs 2015 MLB draft rankings shows why.
The two District 6-6A standouts appeared on the April edition of the site’s draft rankings, with each earning relatively high praise.
Murray, long considered a player with first-round potential on the baseball diamond, maintained that standing as the rankings’ No. 15 prospect. Lauded for his raw power and speed, Murray has been limited to designated hitter work this spring as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury.
Better known stateside for his three-year run of state championships with the Allen football team, Murray’s draft day decision figures to garner no shortage of intrigue given that he’s committed to play football at Texas A&M University.
Hansen, who both pitches and helms the outfield for the Wildcats, appeared on the rankings as one of the high school position players listed among the list’s top 81 prospects. Hansen is mentioned among players projected in the supplemental first and second round, or early third-round selections.
A Stanford commit, Hansen is currently leading the Wildcats in a myriad of categories, including batting average (.548), hits (23) and home runs (two).
The 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft takes place June 8-10.
